RedwoodRISE Ventures partnered with 757 Collab to provide customized support for the winners of the RISE Riverine Community Resilience Challenge. This initiative focused on empowering businesses with innovative solutions to address the persistent challenges of riverine flooding in Southwestern Virginia, where communities are increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events and flood-related disruptions.
Our role in the challenge was to help the winning teams scale their solutions effectively and implement pilot programs that could bring immediate impact to areas most in need. Through our tailored accelerator curriculum, we worked closely with these innovators to refine their strategies, ensuring their solutions were not only technically sound but also scalable, investable, and practical for deployment in flood-prone communities.
Addressing Critical Flooding Challenges
The RISE Riverine Challenge sought groundbreaking solutions to tackle issues such as:
Early warning systems: Providing communities with real-time flood alerts and predictive analytics to enhance preparedness and response.
Flood-resistant infrastructure: Innovative building materials and designs that mitigate water damage and improve long-term resilience.
Data-driven risk assessment tools: Leveraging technology to help municipalities and residents make informed decisions on flood mitigation and recovery strategies.
Nature-based solutions: Integrating sustainable, eco-friendly approaches to flood management, such as wetland restoration and green infrastructure.
How We Helped
Our collaboration with 757 Collab ensured that the challenge winners received the necessary support to refine their business models, develop go-to-market strategies, and establish connections with key stakeholders. Some of the ways we contributed include:
Business Development Support: Helping winners identify opportunities to scale their solutions beyond pilot programs and attract investment.
Strategic Mentorship: Providing one-on-one guidance tailored to each solution, ensuring that their innovations align with community needs and regulatory requirements.
Resource Connections: Connecting businesses with local governments, infrastructure providers, and community organizations to facilitate on-the-ground implementation.
Bringing Impact to Southwestern Virginia
The pilot programs implemented in Southwestern Virginia have already started making a meaningful impact, helping residents and local governments better prepare for and respond to riverine flooding events. These efforts are critical in enhancing economic resilience, protecting infrastructure, and ultimately improving the quality of life for those living in flood-prone areas.
As we continue to work with challenge participants and local stakeholders, we're excited to see these solutions evolve into long-term resilience strategies that can be replicated across other vulnerable regions.
